Lakers(to be continued)

I try the door and… it’s locked; again. Me and my 4 other friends look at each other with the same look of disappointment. It was always like this so we should not be surprised, but still just for once maybe our passes would work. But no they did not. They really need to update these passes.

“Should we split up this time?” Says Hannah she is about my age with thick blond hair that goes past her elbows. She is the second tallest in our group, me being the tallest. “We should get inside before it rains.”

“Sure” Josh responds sarcastically. He is one year younger than me but seems to think he is 10 years older than me. He is the most annoying one of all of us and he and Hannah get into a lot of fights.

I yawn Josh woke us all up at 4am and I had trouble falling back asleep. My mind driftes to this morning when I was enjoying my sleep when I heard Josh getting up. At 4am! He started stopping around like an elephant and like usual he woke all of us up.

I know what you are thinking, why are 5 kids sleeping alone in there own hotel room? Well you see even though we all look so different we are actually quite similar. All of our parents play in the NBA-or to be more specific- the Los Angeles Lakers. Today they are playing the Golden State Warriors at home. As a child of an NBA player and being over the age of 9 I am allowed to play on the Lakers team but only if everyone is not able to play. Because of this we travel with the team just in case something might happen. We also get to the area 2 hours before any fan is allowed in. We also are the best of friends so instead of sleeping with our boring parents we are allowed to sleep together which is the best because we are all best friends. We also are all 11 and in the same grade so we do our online school together and help each other if needed.

“How about I go one way and everyone else the other.” Josh continues

“Why don’t half of us go one and the other half the other” Hannah responds, challenging Josh

“Why, scared…” Josh says, trying to get Hannah to continue

“No, I just think that the security would believe a group of kids opposed to just you.” Hannah responds, falling into Josh’s trap

“Is that an insult?” Josh replies, this is not going how I thought it would go.

“Maybe” Hannah says a smile creeping up her mouth

“Guys!” Caleb said he is always the one who gets in between the two, “We are not going to get in if you two keep on fighting.”

“Let’s just go with Hannah’s idea,” Mackenzie said, she is the silliest of the group but is quiet around other people, “If it does not work then we can go with Josh’s,”

“Yeah,” I said “We can meet you at the main court.”

“Fiiiiine.” Said Josh, so we split up. Me, Hannah, and Mackenzie go right and Josh and Caleb go left.

When my group gets to the next entrance we see a security guards we explain to him who we are and show him our passes. He lets us in and we head to the main court where the players are warming up. When we get there we do not see Josh and Caleb so we find a seat and sit down as we are waiting for these slow boys. As we are waiting, some of the Lakers players challenge us to a knock out game, none of us win but it was still fun. By the end of the game the boys have arrived and we go to find our sets. When we find them we set our bags down and play tag till everyone starts to arrive, we then go to the court to watch Steph Curry warm up. His warm up is so cool to watch and we are not the only ones watching. When all the excitement is over we head back to our seats.

As the game starts me and Hannah  go to the caseshin stand to us snakes for the first half of the game. We get 5 🥨, 5 drinks and 5 boxes of candy. When we get back we settled in to watch what we thought would be a normal game in because the Lakers and Warriors.

The game started off as a normal game with a few awesome dunks by Anthony Davis here and there but other than that it was normal. Until with just 5 minutes left in the second quarter LeBron James goes down. He holds his ankle as metil staf start surrounding him. After a minute or two he gets up and leans on a teammate as he hobbles off the court. All of us look at each other knowing how this will affect the team, LeBron is one of the most important part of the team so all we can do is just hope AD is ready to dominate.

Just 2 minutes after LeBron goes down stef cruey goes down and hobbles off the court leading on a teammate. This is how the rest of the game went, players going down and hobbling off the court till with 9 minutes left in the 4th they only have 4 players left, we all look at each other knowing what to do. As the rest of the area waits for the referee’s decision on what to do we rush down to the court leaving all our stuff behind. We get there just as the refers are coming to there design when they see us they stop and look at us, i can feel the whole area eyes looking down on us I walk up to the main ref with my friends in tral.

“Hello,” I say nervously playing with the end of my sweatshirt,  Mackenzie gives me a little bump and I get more caffedenc “my name is Madeleine and me and my friends are the backups for the Lakers.” We show him our badges and he tells us to change and to our uniforms then come back out to play in the game. One of the assistant coaches then shows us to our locker room so we can get change. After that he leaves us to get changed. I look around the room. It is white and there are 5 cubbies around the room each with their own Lakers jersey. Above the cubbies are our names, all of us with wide smiles go to are cubbies and start at our jerseys in awe till Josh ruins it by saying,

“Guys, we have a whole stadium waiting on us!” So we quickly change into our uniforms and head out, when we get there the head coach tells Josh (of all people) to go out and just…play. We look at each other knowing that he just wants to end this game, but also knowing we have more talent then he realizes. We sit on the bench with the other coaching staff and watch the game. When a player goes down one of us goes in till it is just us versus the warriors. All their best players are out so it is basically just the bench versus the locker room. At this point we are down by 19 with 5 minutes left in the game. We would only be able to pull of a comeback if we were the Lakers best players, but we are not there is no way we can do this. At least that is what everyone else thinks.

Josh gets the ball and brings it up the court then looks at me, I am just behind the 3 point line and we both know I can make it. He passes me the ball up in the air like a baseball though and I jump up and grab it, I though it up just before my feet hit the ground and make it. I am not phased by this because we practice this all the time, and though it is not used in the NBA it works and could help us sacer the win. With my shot we just need 17 points to win so we just need the ball back to do it again. When they bring it back up Mackenzie gets the ball and shoots, 14, 11, 8, 5, and then 2. Josh is coming up the court again and I want to dunk. (Wait. I know what you are thinking. I am only 5’8”, I can not dunk. But the thing is I can, I have been practicing and though no one else knows I can dunk pretty well) I stand at the same spot I did last time with a deraet line to the basket, Josh passes me the ball and insa of shooting like everyone else thought I wa going to I run, the ball in my right hand bouncing of my hand into the ground and then back up again. Time seems to slow as I go in, then I jump and my hand slams down onto the rim. Then the buser sounds signaling the end of the game. Everyone who was left in the area goes silent as we look at each other with shock. We had just won an NBA game.

When we get to the locker room we see all the players who got hurt with their ankles raped up or with ice on them.
